You have to love the way a headline will grab you. In this case, “More than a quarter of British Columbians would give up spouse for smartphone”. Sounds like one or the other on a permanent basis but of course when you read further it says one in four would be willing to give up their spouse for a full day if it meant keeping their smartphone. Now that I can believe. A report shows more than three quarters of British Columbians own a smartphone and spend an average of 4.6 hours on them each day. One third of those aged 18-24 would give up heating on a cold winter day rather than give up their smartphone and one in five aged 25-34 would give up a day’s wage. Wow, to me that’s getting pretty radical. How smart are these Millenials anyway that they couldn’t go without their smartphone for a day rather than lose a day’s pay? Are they that addicted? Overall, one in five surveyed, 20% ,said they sleep with their phones and that number jumps to a whopping 70% in the 18-24 age group. One in three wives surveyed said she sleeps with a stuffed animal, better known as a husband. Actually, I made that last one up (but it could be true).
