Aging infrastructure is one of the reasons for power outages and that’s why about 14 kilometres of new, underground power line is being installed in eight neighbourhoods in Regina and Saskatoon.
SaskPower advises that doing the work safely means that some power outages will be required, but customers will be notified if they are impacted.
Underground cable replacement is currently underway in some areas of Lawson Heights, Silverwood, Fairhaven and Parkridge neighbourhoods in Saskatoon and later on will begin in East College Park.
The cost of the project this year is $5.5-million.
next year, more underground cable will be replaced in Regina and Saskatoon as well as a few other locations.
