Prior to the opening of the new Traffic Bridge in a couple of weeks, work was completed this summer to Victoria Avenue leading up to the new bridge.
The work includes new raised, asphalt bike tracks, new concrete sidewalks and median restoration.
The city’s Acting Engineering Manager with the Transportation Division, David LeBoutillier says that several different options were considered for new cycling infrastructure to address the neighbourhood’s concern about traffic speeds and volumes as well as pedestrian and cycling safety.
LeBoutillier adds that similar bike tracks along with similar concrete sidewalks are being added in the city’s newer developments such as Aspen Ridge and Evergreen.
Other improvements to Victoria Avenue include new signage and pavement markings to help guide traffic.
Once the bridge opens, the city is expecting similar traffic numbers on Victoria Avenue to that of was seen prior to the closure of the old bridge.
The new Traffic Bridge will open on October 3rd.
