An organization I am associated with showed up at a venue for a meeting and found we didn’t have a room reserved. Someone was supposed to have booked it but it hadn’t been done. It reminded me of that old parable I’ve used before that many people seemed to have enjoyed. It’s about those four people whose names were Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was a job to be done and Everybody was asked to do it. Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it. But Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought that Anybody could do it and that Somebody would do it, and Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it. In the end Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done. Now, in this particular case of room booking, I was one of the Everybodies who thought for sure that Somebody would do it. I made a mental note to be the Anybody who actually does it in future so Nobody gets the blame for something that should have been done but wasn’t..
