When I say the word “pop”, what does it mean to you? When you think about it, the word pop can have different meanings depending on the context. Probably the most “pop”ular definition is a light, explosive sound, as in the balloon or the champagne went pop. Another definition means to go and see someone for a short time as in to pop by and see how someone is doing. Of course we think of pop as being a soft drink. Guys will sometimes refer to having a pop when they mean something harder than soda pop. There are ice pops that we call popsicles and hard candy on a stick called lollipops. Pop also refers to modern popular music that isn’t country, classical or jazz. We call Ed Sheeran and Katy Perry pop singers. If you’ve seen some of those tv shows from the mid-20th century you know dads were sometimes referred to as pop. A pop up is a baseball hit high but not deep. A person can also pop up unexpectedly. There was an old nursery rhyme called Pop Goes the Weasel where weasel meant an article of clothing, not an animal. I’m not sure why I thought about the word pop today, it just popped into my head. Now I’ll pop on out of here before someone pops me one for all this poppycock.
That’s (Coffeetalk). I’m Vic Dubois.
