Former Saskatoon Police Chief Clive Weighill has been appointed Chief Coroner for Saskatchewan.
His new job is effective September 15th. Weighill was also the former President of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police and has more than 40 years of experience with the justice system in Saskatchewan.
Weighill was tasked with the review into provincial coroners and released 44 recommendations in June. Among those recommendations was developing a plan for responding to mass casualties, having staff get help for post-traumatic stress disorder, that community coroners receive more than the current one day of training, and that a child death review committee be created.
