A 20-year old man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl in Prince Albert last July has received an eight-year prison sentence.
Jered John Charles snatched the girl from a playground after a relative left her alone briefly to get a drink of water.
The girl was taken to an abandoned home and let go after about three hours. She walked seven kilometres through dense forest to a house and police were called.
Charles had pleaded guilty to several charges.
He will serve his sentence which amounts to about six and a half years after credit for time served, at the Regional Psychiatric Centre in Saskatoon.
The judge recommends Charles get as much treatment as possible for fetal alcohol syndrome disorder.
