University of Regina spokesperson, Livia Castellanos says they’ve learned more than 150 Saudi students, most of whom are enrolled in the school’s sponsorship/scholarship program, need to leave Canada.
She says if the students go, there’ll be a massive cultural void because they bring to the university a rich culture. Castellanos says the Saudi students are working towards degrees, master’s degrees and PhDs, and she wonders if all of the work already done will be recognized. There are 9 students registered at the University of Saskatchewan for the fall, but it’s expected there would have been more registrants before the beginning of the term.
After criticism from Global Affairs Canada over Saudi Arabia’s human rights record, The Islamic nation recalled its ambassador, expelled Canada’s ambassador, froze any new trade with Canada, shut down all flights to this country by the state airline, and has suspended scholarships for Saudi students attending school here.
