It’s my Parting Shot for some Monday Musings…
I know the devout members of Rider Nation sitting near me at Mosaic Stadium on Saturday weren’t going to listen to me…but, they should’ve listened closely to Chris Jones following the 34-22 loss to Calgary. When asked if he didn’t have confidence in quarterback Brandon Bridge…especially when it comes to throwing the football down-field…which the Roughriders really didn’t do at all…Jones responded by talking about how the Stampeders don’t go downfield with the ball on first down very often, opting instead for running plays, screen passes, hitch routes, short passes…and they’ve been very successful for a long time. Not that Rider Nation wants to listen to Chris Jones, but what he said in essence was, No…I don’t have a lot of confidence in Brandon Bridge to throw a ball more than 15 yards for fear of something bad happening! One can only hope Zach Collaros is back soon so Jones can feel good about a deep pass play again…preferably to Duron Carter back on offence!
There is no truth to the rumour that Randy Volk has been head professional at the Saskatoon Golf and Country Club since Pat Fletcher left…it just seems that way. I bring up Pat Fletcher because he ran the pro shop at S-G-C-and-C many years ago. Fletcher also was the last Canadian golfer to win the Canadian Open…many years ago…in 1954 to be exact. It’s been 64 years since and I’m beginning to wonder if I’ll ever see a Canadian golfer win the Canadian Open in my lifetime!
I’m disappointed that Vladimir Guerrero chose to wear an Anaheim Angels ball cap for his induction into the Baseball Hall-of-Fame yesterday…not the cap of the Montreal Expos with whom he started his major league career in 1996. Then, again, I’m disappointed with baseball in general…and will continue to be until the Expos make a return!
That’s my Parting Shot, I’m Les Lazaruk…
