Increase To Canada Child Benefit Two Years Ahead Of Schedule

The Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations is in Saskatoon today (Thurs) touting the improvement of the Canada Child Benefit Plan and taking part in a special ceremony to celebrate the signing of the co-developed Housing Sub-Accord with Metis Nation Presidents.
Starting on Friday, the Canada Child Benefit or CCB will be increased to keep up with the cost of living, two years ahead of the original plan to do so.
Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, Jean-Yves Duclos, says the CCB will now have a maximum annual benefit of $6,496 per child under 6 and $5,481 per child age 6 through 17.
Indexing the benefit to inflation will increase program spending to just over $25-billion by 2022, from the $23.7-billion budgeted for this fiscal year.
