The Saskatchewan Roughriders offence was absent for most of Thursday night but showed up when it mattered.
Marcus Thigpen ran 34 yards for the winning touchdown with 1:29 to play as the Green and White downed Hamilton 18-13. The other Riders T-D came on a 57-yard fumble recovery and return by rush end Charleston Hughes.
“When I looked up and saw the ball coming, I went, ‘oh, shoot I gotta run now’,” laughed the veteran pass rusher. “It’s been a long time (since Hughes ran a long distance for a touchdown), but it was a good feeling knowing that I could get there. I mean it’s six (points), I scored!”
Tiger-Cats quarterback Jeremiah Masoli joined some elite company by producing his ninth straight game with 300 or more yards passing. That ties a long-standing C-F-L record shared by Sam Etcheverry and Kent Austin.
Both teams have 2-2 records, both have a bye next week…then have a return match July 19 in Hamilton.
