The Canadian Safe Boating Council and Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation have the same message for National Fishing Week…wear your lifejacket.
The Council quotes statistics that indicate 80-percent of Canadian recreational boaters who drown each year, weren’t wearing jackets or personal floating devises.
They also point out some lifejackets are functional for fishing with several pockets and attachments for nets. The Council suggests form fitting jackets that fit snugly and are Transport Canada approved.
Council officials say having a lifejacket handy isn’t good enough if you suddenly fall into the water.
