Protesters at the campground outside the Saskatchewan Legislature held their own pre- Canada Day celebration Saturday.
A trespassers powwow went, with hundreds of people turning out.
Camp spokesperson Robyn Pitawanakwat says it’s a celebration of what existed before the dominion of Canada was founded.
“When we celebrate Canada, it’s the creation of the state, which actually took away all the rights and displaced Indigenous people.”
Pitawanakwat says the displacement of Indigenous peoples is something not worth celebrating and the powwow is also symbolic of what Canada could be.
