Three inmates have been charged in connection to a sudden death investigation at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary which began in December of 2016.
RCMP say there was a major disturbance and lockdown and a 43 year old prisoner, Jason Leonard Bird, was found unresponsive in the medium security unit around 7:15 that night.
While investigating, officers learned of an assault of a 31 year old prisoner during the disturbance.
All three men, 27 year old Kelfert Watetch, 23 year old Brandon Burns and 22 year old Landon McKay are charged with 2nd degree murder and attempted murder.
The RCMP reports that the investigation is still ongoing and further arrests and charges are anticipated.
