An unregulated Air B&B industry is not good for the province. That’s the feeling of the Saskatchewan Hotel and Hospitality Association. President Jim Bence feels Air B&B’s should be licensed like the hotel and taxi industries. He stresses the association has no problem with home owners renting out their principle redidences to make a few extra dollars. Bence says they do take exception to out of town owners like multi-national corporations getting involved. Bence also points out because no licences are needed, criminals such as drug dealers and prostitution rings can set up shop in residential neighbourhoods. The association also cautions the lack of rules could mean conflicts over noise, garbage and parking. The City of Saskatoon’s Air B&B survey conducted earlier this year is still under review and hasn’t been released.
