Welcome to the summer of 2018. When we went to bed last night it was spring and unless you are a very early riser like morning show hosts on radio you missed the arrival of summer at 4:07 am CST, which is the time we are on all the time, or, if you want to get cute, Mountain Daylight Saving Time, which equates to the same time as Central Standard Time BUT, time’s a wasting so onward we go through the summer solstice which annually falls somewhere between June 20 and 22nd. It’s also referred to as midsummer which sounds weird considering it’s the first day of summer. To get technical, today the earth’s rotational axis, or geographical pole, has the northern hemisphere most greatly inclined toward the star that it orbits, in our case that nearly perfect sphere of hot plasma in the centre of our solar system we call the sun. Today is the longest day of the year in terms of daylight and then starting tomorrow the days start to get shorter…and why the heck did I have to spoil things on this beautiful morning to bring that up? We won’t notice anyway for some weeks so forget I said it. For now let’s just enjoy and have fun, fun, fun till daddy takes the T-bird away, to quote a Beach Boys Classic from 1964.
That’s Coffeetalk. I’m Vic Dubois.
