Duron Carter will start at defensive back Thursday night against the RedBlacks in Ottawa.
Riders Coach and GM Chris Jones says the plan is to have Carter play the entire game on defense. Jones said Carter has refined his defensive skills after showing raw talent on the other side of the line when thrust into the role last season. Jones praised Carter for his work ethic at training camp to improve as a defensive back.
Jones also expects quite a quarterbacking duel in the nation’s capital. He has coached RedBlacks starter Trevor Harris and said both Harris and Zach Collaros are hard working detail oriented players who are fully prepared for every game.
The Riders opened the 2018 season with a 27-19 win over the defending Grey Cup champion Toronto Argonaughts. Ottawa didn’t play last week and this will be their home and season opener.
