The protestors camp across the street from the Legislative Building was taken down this morning [fri]. There have been First Nations protestors camping on the grounds of the Legislature since shortly after the Gerald Stanley trial where the Biggar area farmer was found not guilty in the shooting death of 22 year old Colten Boushie. The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations was urging the provincial government to sit down with these people and hear their concerns. The province says representatives of the Government have visited the camp multiple times and offered to set up formal meetings on many dates and in many locations. These have been refused. On June 2nd, notice was given to the group by the Provincial Capital Commission stating that they would need to vacate the premises and remove their property from the park by June 5th. This morning the Commission enforced the eviction notice with the assistance of Regina Police in removing the group and their property from the park.
