Shortly after midnight this morning, Big River RCMP while doing patrols on Big River First Nation, attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic offence however the vehicle didn’t stop and pulled into a residence on the First Nation.
The suspect then entered the home and confronted police and attempted to assault an officer with a weapon.
Members from the Shellbrook and Spiritwood detachments were dispatched along with Police Dog Services to assist with the investigation.
The suspect attempted to flee the home on foot but was apprehended and arrested by police.
41 year old Lonny Lachance of Big River First Nation has been charged with multiple offences including assault of a police officer with a weapon and resisting arrest.
Lachance will appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Monday.
