The tournament scoring race might show an eight point difference between them…but Sam Steel of the Regina Pats and Robert Thomas of the Hamilton Bulldogs will be the focal players for their clubs when they collide Friday night in the Memorial Cup semi-final.
A 2016 first round N-H-L Draft pick by Anaheim, Steel leads the event with 11 points, including 10 assists. Thomas was a first round choice, 20th overall, by St. Louis in 2017, but he only has three points…two of them goals…so far.
“I think (Thomas) is somewhat different than Sam,” explained Pats’ G-M and head coach John Paddock when asked how Thomas compares with Steel. “But, (Thomas) is a big-time player.”
Waiting for Friday night’s winner in Sunday’s final is the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
