It’s my Parting Shot for the return to work edition of Weekend Short Shots…just in time for the start of the 100th Memorial Cup…
That means going through the good and the bad for the Fearless Predictor!
I’ll start with the good. I correctly predicted the Swift Current Broncos would beat Everett in the W-H-L final, meaning I picked 13 series winners out of 15 and had an East Division team winning the league title over the Silvertips…even though it was Speedy Creek and not Moose Jaw!
The bad?! My N-H-L bracket has been blown to smithereens. I had Nashville beating Boston in the Stanley Cup final. Neither team is among the final four. In fact, when I started the post-season, I didn’t see any of the four teams still playing being alive! Brutal!!
That brings me to the 100th Memorial Cup in Regina…my home for the next 10 days. The best team here is the Ontario League-champion Hamilton Bulldogs. By all rights, they should continue the O-H-L domination of this event…Ontario teams having won the last three C-H-L titles. But, I’m going sentimental with a hunch that the two Saskatchewan-based teams in the event…the first time that has happened since 1989 in Saskatoon…will do what Swift Current and the Blades did that year. Meet in the Memorial Cup final. The Broncos will hoist the trophy over the Pats!
How do you like that for storybook stuff?!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk in Regina…
