Today would be the day to bike to work. Between 7 and 9 this morning, there will be bike stations set up around the city and anyone on a bike is invited to stop by, have a coffee, check out the giveaways and enter to win prizes. Describing it as a party on the way to work, the City of Saskatoon is sponsoring Bike to Work Day YXE which is an initiative of Saskatoon Cycles. It is the City’s belief that new cycling infrastructure and eventually Bus Rapid Transit will mean more people choose alternatives to driving.
Meanwhile, for the next two weeks, the Bike Unit and Beat Officers are focusing on educating the public through the enforcement of the Bicycle Bylaw and the Traffic Safety Act. Their enforcement initiative will include the Downtown, Riversdale and Broadway Business Improvement Districts. And everyone is included in the education effort from cyclists to pedestrians and motorists.
