I know, I know, I just got too excited about the fabulous weather and had to get planting. I was actually in BC and visited Bouchart Gardens a few weeks ago which firmly implanted the gardening bug and the only thing I think I haven’t planted yet are my tomatoes. In my defence, it is going to be a glorious week with a ton of sun and heat so I figure I will actually get a jump on the season. Or I’ll be running around like a nut covering things at night. It could go either way. We are extremely fortunate in Saskatoon and in Saskatchewan to have lots of opportunities for learning about growing like the Master Gardener Program at the U of S – actually so well-done that people from out of province come to take part in Hort Week which is in the summer and available to everyone – just look it up, it is really terrific. We have the Perennial society here, we can do tours of backyards in the city which are just stunning, and there things like, not so much gardening but nature related – the Nature City Festival with over 50 events across the city. It’s a short season on the prairies which is why I unabashedly embrace it with such unapologetic enthusiasm and fervor. Get out there and the sunshine folks. Summer’s coming!
