So when we interviewed the Saskatoon Public School Board in March over Mount Royal Collegiate going to a tea versus a banquet following their Cap and Gown ceremony for grads, no decision had been made regarding other high schools in the city.
But a decision has been made for next year. At least partly. A letter was sent home with high school students in the Saskatoon Public School system on Thursday explaining there will be no more banquets.
As to whether they will also adopt a Tea, hasn’t been determined, according to Veronica Baker with the Saskatoon Public School Board this morning. Primarily the decision was based on graduation banquets becoming cost-prohibitive, even with the school subsidizing a portion of the costs, for some of the parents. Baker says Nutana Collegiate also stopped doing a banquet and dance and has had a tea after the graduation ceremony for the last few years.
Graduation banquet season is in June for both Catholic and Public school divisions. The Greater Saskatoon Catholic School Board says they have had preliminary discussions but haven’t had consultations within the school communities so they have made no changes or decisions about graduation banquets.
