The NDP says education funding and crumbling schools are of grave concern. Opposition leader Ryan Meili says Argyle school is in disrepair in Regina and the province is failing in adequate support for teachers. Education minister Gordon Wyant says safety is a key issue for all schools and they are kept to strict safe standards. Wyant adds the province opened six new schools in Regina last year and the province provided for 30 million dollars in extra funding for the education ministry this year. Wyant says the province has made a record investment in school capital funding last year.
Information Access
Meanwhile, the NDP is pushing for expanded power for the information and privacy commissioner. Opposition justice critic Nicole Sarauer wants the information commissioner to have the power to force the Global Transportation Hub to provide freedom of information requests. Justice minister Don Morgan says officials in his ministry are trying to help the GTH to ensure all rules are followed but he points out there is some sensitive commercial information. (CKRM Regina)
