Some of the challenges that cities have are not the same as what smaller centres experience, and that’s why SUMA delegates from towns, villages and the northern sector are meeting in Regina Wednesday and Thursday.
Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association Vice-President of Towns, Rodger Hayward, says it’s a chance to discuss issues with other communities of a similar size.
He expects landfills to be on the list and dealing with the new environmental regulations.
Landfills are too costly for a small population base so Hayward believes a regional approach may be the answer.
To start a landfill is in the millions of dollars.
Government Relations Minister Warren Kaeding is speaking to the delegates , as is Fire Commissioner Duane McKay, to talk about wildfire management, prevention and preparation.
