Saskatchewan’s Premier was in Arizona at the North American Governors and Premiers Meeting, where he spoke with Alberta Premier Rachel Notley about the Trans Mountain pipeline project.
He says their discussions centred on the importance of getting their products to market, noting Canpotex is a good example of how investment in one area of North America can reap rewards in another part.
“20 billion dollar investment in the potash industry over the last number of years has resulted in Canpotex being the largest shipper of potash out of the Port of Oregon.”
He notes that they have three ports they utilize; two in Canada and one in Oregon and they are the largest shipper out of that Port of Oregon to 40 countries all around the world which he says was made possible by an investment initially here in the province of Saskatchewan.
One of the other main topics of discussions was about NAFTA which he says is definitely due for an update but not a rewrite. Moe says the general perception of those with whom he spoke was that NAFTA is a beneficial agreement for all parties involved. (CKRM Regina)
