It’s my Parting Shot for pre-holiday Short Shots…
First up, it’s “The Fearless Predictor” who picked both winners of the W-H-L’s Conference finals, which means I’ve nailed 12 out of 14 series winners thus far. Going back to my initial prognostications before the playoffs started, I correctly picked Everett to be in the Ed Chynoweth Cup final from the Western Conference. Moose Jaw let me down in the East, but I’m pretty pumped about an 85 per cent correct prediction log so far!
That means it’s time to pick the W-H-L champ. From the beginning, I said Moose Jaw would beat Everett and when the Warriors lost, I said it would be Swift Current knocking off the Silvertips. I know that the W-H-L Player and Goaltender-of-the-Year is Carter Hart of Everett. But, Stuart Skinner of the Broncos has slightly better post-season numbers than Hart and Swifty has more firepower. I think the Broncos prevail in six games!
If that happens, Swift Current will be the first Saskatchewan-based team to win the W-H-L championship since the Broncos did it in 1993. In that same year, the Montreal Canadiens were the last Canadian-based team to win the Stanley Cup. I’m all for kismet this time around…Swift Current winning the Dub and the Winnipeg Jets being N-H-L champions! Bring it on!!
Talk to you in two weeks from the Memorial Cup in Regina!
That’s my Parting Shot, I’m Les Lazaruk…
