The Labour Relations Board will be holding a hearing today (wed) after Elmwood Group Homes filled an employer’s application against SEIU-West members earlier this year. The application is in regards to Elmwood Group Homes support workers withdrawing certain services dating back to mid-February. Some of the services to residents that have been canclled include not picking up, or putting away groceries and not driving residents to leisure events. President of SEIU-West, Barb Cape says they believe they haven’t violated the Saskatchewan Employment Act by withdrawing certain services. The decision to stop the services comes as workers haven’t received a raise in 5 years and have been working without a contract since the end of 2015. The employer’s application to the Labour Relations Board was heard back in late February but the board dismissed the application for interim relief and dates for the full hearing where scheduled for today, tomorrow, and Friday. Cape adds staff at Elmwood Group Homes roughly make $17.50 an hour.
