The City of North Battleford is reducing the amount of waste going into its landfill by converting biosolids into a CFIA registered, Class A quality biofertilizer.
Clifford Dyck from the City of North Battleford says they convert biosolids by using technology from Lystek, a waste management company based out of Cambridge, Ontario.
Dyck says the system uses three steps including heat, chemicals, and shearing to convert biosolids.
The fertilizer has been going to a local farmer in the North Battleford area and Dyck adds the landfill isn’t as packed as it used to be since converting biosolids into fertilizer nearly 4 years ago. Earth Day was yesterday with people around the world taking part by hosting events to help clean parks and river valleys.
Also communities took the opportunity to show what they’re doing to help the environment such as what has been happening in North Battleford since December of 2014.
