More people in Saskatoon took the bus last year. According to the 2017 Transit Report, ridership hit almost 9-million, an increase of two percent. However, Director of Saskatoon Transit Jim McDonald says they still aren’t hitting revenue targets. McDonald believes revenue projections are overly aggressive and it may take a year or two to make them more realistic. He also says despite increased ridership the use of discounted fares have affected the bottom line. McDonald says it’s too early to predict if there will be a deficit this year. The close to 1500 complaints were the highest in four years. McDonald attributes that to their faster response to concerns and feels acting on complaints that will improve service is worthwhile.
