Many areas of the city will have canvassers out today (Wed). They aren’t looking for charity or political party support. Instead, you may run into a canvasser with the Saskatoon Housing Initiatives Partnership Point in Time Count for Homelessness. SHIP spokesperson Chris Randall says volunteers will be downtown, in the core neighbourhoods, on Broadway and Central Avenues and 8th Street. The idea is to get an idea of how many homeless there are, whether without shelter or couch surfing, to figure out how best they can be served. Randall says since the 2015 count, their Housing First Model has found homes for 840 people. A report will be compiled for stakeholders, which will take about a month and then programming decisions can be made.
