He’s a high school teacher from Saskatoon who has a lot of film industry credits to his name, and his latest production will have its Canadian Premier this Thursday through Sunday at the Roxy Theatre. Tom Simes wrote and directed the movie ‘Because of Gracia’, which is about four high school students dealing with relationships and dating, teen pregnancy and Christian identity. The film was shot in Louisiana and has had its debut in the U.S., winning 19 awards including the prestigious Frank Capra Spirit Award for Best Director. One of the lead actors, Chris Massoglia, has a list of roles on his resume, with his first acting job on Law and Order when he was only 10 years old. He is speaking to high school students this week to share his experiences in Hollywood and to possibly touch on some of the issues that come up in the movie. Simes and Massoglia and other cast members will entertain questions after each screening at the Roxy as well.

The Candian government wants the country’s banks to identify, in customers’ bank statements when they receive the carbon rebate, that it is labelled as such.
Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault says the lack of a clear identifier is contributing to confusion about carbon price rebates, so he is going to change the law if he has to in order to force the big banks to identify the carbon rebate by name when doing direct deposits.
The first rebate deposits in 2022 were labelled very generically, which meant recipients had no idea why they were getting the money.
T-D and B-MO have adopted the government’s requested “CdaCarbonRebate” entry, R-B-C and Scotiabank say they couldn’t make the change in time for the rollout, and C-I-B-C is still calling it “Deposit Canada.”
