We did not fare so well on the value of building permits in February. Statistics Canada says the value dropped 30.4 per cent in Saskatchewan from January. Only Newfoundland and Labrador did worse with a drop of 34.2 per cent. Nationally there was a decline of 2.6 per cent. Year-to-year our numbers were off 39.4 per cent here; while New Brunswick was in worse shape with a decline of 42 per cent. Nationally, values were up 6.5 per cent.
For census metropolitan areas, Saskatoon saw values drop about 38 per cent from January with three of 36 centres across the country doing worse. Nationally, there was an average decline of 2.6 per cent. Year-to-year, values were off 38 per cent in Saskatoon with 7 centres having a tougher time. Nationally there was an average increase of 2.3 per cent.
