It’s my Parting Shot for some Weekend Short Shots…
In light of the team missing the playoffs for a fifth straight season and G-M Colin Priestner taking the lion’s share of the heat from fans and media for that and the subsequent firing of Dean Brockman, you couldn’t blame Priestner if he had a “ha-HA” moment yesterday at his detractors when Hockey Canada revealed that three members of the Saskatoon Blades will suit up for Team Canada at the World Under-18 Championship later this month in Russia. It’s been a long wait for something good to happen for the Bridge City Bunch and their long-suffering supporters, but having Nolan Maier, Chase Wouters and Kirby Dach (pictured) be part of Hockey Canada’s program can only mean that better times are not far ahead!
With the N-H-L Playoffs just around the corner, get ready for this…a slew of one-goal games, many with overtime! Last night, 11 of the 12 games scheduled were decided by just one goal while the 12th was a one-goal game with an empty-net goal in the dying seconds. Only if you have a suspect ticker should you not watch the opening round of the post-season…because it is going to be great, heart-stopping hockey!!
There was a news story today talking about how eight major league baseball games have already been postponed due to inclement weather and how two more today could be scrubbed because of snow in New York and Denver. Two things…why does the season have to start in late-March and early-April? And, if it does, why not play the first three weeks to a month in southern climates or in stadiums with domes, thus significantly reducing the threat of snowouts or bitter cold postponements?!
That’s my Parting Shot, I’m Les Lazaruk…
