Kelly Bates (pictured) is changing addresses.
The Humboldt product has been hired as offensive quality control coach for the CFL’s Edmonton Eskimos. The 42-year-old Bates joins the Esks after spending three seasons as head coach of the Simon Fraser University football program in Burnaby, B.C. A graduate of the U of S and a member of the 1998 Vanier Cup-champion Huskies, Bates played 10 seasons in the CFL as an offensive lineman, eight of them with B.C. in two stints with the Lions, winning Grey Cups in 2006 and 2011. He also suited up with Winnipeg, the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Edmonton…the latter team in 2010.
