Komodo dragons are a venomous species and there were very strict protocols in place so staff did not enter the space with dragons, but the Meerkat mobs which have taken over that habitat since the Komodo dragons left, are the complete opposite.
That from Manager Tim Sinclair-Smith, with the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo, who says the other big difference is the cuteness factor and level of activity with the meerkats.
Two meerkat mobs, for a total of 10 meerkats, now call Saskatoon home. The switch from a Komodo dragon habitat to a meerkat home included the artistic talents of students from Georges Vanier Catholic Fine Arts School who created cut-out displays to highlight the new Meerkat House.
You can check out the meerkat family in their new permanent home. The exhibit officially opens to the public today.
