Hockey fans in Lafleche, Saskatchewan will be watching Hockey Night in Canada tonight as their community is one of four finalists that could be crowned Kraft Hockeyville 2018.
The winner which will be announced tonight on Hockey Night in Canada and will receive 250 thousand dollars for arena upgrades along with the opportunity to host an NHL pre-season game.
Organizer of the Lafleche bid, Gillian de Grauuw says the money would be used to replace the community’s exsisting ice plant as it hasn’t been replaced since the arena opened.
de Grauuw adds the ice plant upgrade would be beneficial for the community as the rink serves both hockey games and curling games.
Lafleche is up against the communities of High River, Alberta; Huntingdon, Quebec; and Lucan, Ontario.
No Saskatchewan community has won Kraft Hockeyville since its inception in 2006.
