The annual ban on pruning elm trees in Saskatchewan begins tomorrow.
This is the time when the elm bark beetles that spread Dutch elm disease are most active. Fresh cuts from pruning can attract the insects, increasing the chances of an infection. Also, because of the danger of spreading the disease, it is illegal to use, transport, store or sell elm firewood. The pruning ban is in place until August 31st.
